Before the safari everyone receives the warm safari clothing (overall, boots, mittens, scarf, hat and helmet) at the Lapland Safaris clothing area. The guide takes the group to the snowmobiles and gives basic instructions on driving and goes through the safety matters. After dressing and driving instruction, the safari starts leaving Olos for snowy forests and ice-covered lakes. You turn onto the snowmobile track and follow it through the snow covered nature to look for some reindeers in a fence.

Reindeer husbandry is an important livelihood in Lapland. As the reindeer are semi-wild animals, they roam freely in the woods and forests, and are collected together only twice a year for reindeer round‑ups. At a local reindeer farm, some reindeers are in a fence and you get to feed them. During the break, coffee/tea and bun are served before heading back to Olos by snowmobiles. Total driving distance during the safari is approx. 30 km and duration of the safari is approx. 3-4 hours.

After clothing a coach transfer to Lainio Snow village (approx. 1 hour). Guided visit to the Snow village. See the amazing Snow Village with its ice sculptures and here the stories how it is built on a guided tour around the premises. The Snow Village includes hotel rooms and suites made of snow and decorated individually by snow and ice sculptures as well as restaurant and ber made of snow and ice. Soup lunch is served during the visit in the warm Krouvi restaurant. After guided tour and lunch transfer back to the hotel. Duration of the trip approx. 4 hours.

New Year’s Eve – We do it Twice!

About an hour before midnight you will dress up the warm clothes, and get ready for the outdoor celebration ahead. You will meet your Lapland Safaris guides outside the log restaurant and they lead you to the celebration area. The program begins with traditional moulding of tin and prospects for next year. Just before midnight a glass of sparkling wine is served and as the year changes, you get to raise your glasses and enjoy the fireworks.

After the celebration guides lead you to the waiting coach. A short coach transfer takes you over the border to Sweden, where the New Year celebration area is lightened with fires and lumberjack candles. Time is one hour behind in Sweden so it is time for another countdown for changing of the year and you will enjoy the fireworks and sparkling wine again! Transfer back to Olos where you can continue celebrating the New Year’s Eve.

Lapp Camp – fun snow activities for the whole family

Warm outfits (woollen socks, boots, overalls, hats, mittens) are delivered at the Lapland Safaris clothing area before the snowmobile sleigh ride transfers to the Lapp Camp nearby the hotel area. Snowmobile sleigh rides go on non-stop between hotel area and Lapp Camp.

The Lapp Camp is lightened with fires and lumberjack candles and whilst there, you can experience just about all the activities possible in the snow. There are for example miniskidoos for children, kick sledges, snowshoes, skies and tandem skies to try, a fun tobogganing slope as well as Lapp lasso “suopunki” throwing.

The mysterious Lapp shaman has brought his kota tepee to the camp too and makes spells for visitors to bring good luck for them. To make sure you don’t run out of energy, you can roast sausages by campfire and also pancakes with berry jam, black pot coffee/tea, hot juice and hot chocolate are served in the Lapp Camp.
